Soap for clothes tag, reducing paper consumption

Each year worldwide industry produces more than 36 billion pieces of clothing, shoes, handbags, umbrellas and other accessories, each of which is equipped with tags. In Europe and America tags are also equipped with the things that are resold in vintage stores or come in second-hand.

Labels for clothing have come a long and interesting evolutionary path before acquired a modern appearance. On the territory of Kievan Rus concept “label” and “brand” appeared in the trade in the days of ancient Russians. In medieval Europe, the trademark becomes a stigma: it helped to avoid fraudulent traders and dealers, and guaranteed quality of the goods. So first of all branded luxury goods.

The massive use of familiar labels all started during the industrial production of clothing with the adoption of the Paris Convention in 1883. It was then paid serious attention to the protection of industrial property. Tailor private labels were not needed, but competition still forced them to sew labels for clothes, create your brand and different. Nowadays, apart from textile labels sewn on clothes sold more attached and one or two large advertising labels of cardboard or plastic.

This label - is not only a source of information, but also a means of drawing attention to the product and encourage the purchase. Without this information element is small it is difficult to trade: visually selecting goods, the buyer next case draws attention to the label. Here you can usually find information about the manufacturer, the features and rules of care for the product, price and possible discount, logo and other useful data.

Production billion labels requires not only a huge amount of wood (only occasionally recycled), but also more ink, which include heavy metals and other unpleasant chemicals. Plastic labels, in turn, require recycling or landfill replenish. And what do we do with all this “good”? That’s right, cut the tag after buying clothes and send to the trash.

To avoid unnecessary consumption of resources, designers Danghui Li, Yuexin Huang, Yao Zhang and Long Chen created the project “Hang Tag”. This tag does not just dissolve in water, but within five minutes creates a soap solution that can be used for the first wash. Thereby novelty resembles the laziest that before using desirable to eliminate residual chemicals that can accumulate on the surface of the garment during production and transportation.
