Pope Francis admitted evolution and the Big Bang theory

Head of the Roman Catholic Church, Francis acknowledged the theory of evolution and the Big Bang, and at the same time said that God - not a “magician with a magic wand.” This was the Pope said at the presentation in the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. According to experts, it symbolizes the end of pseudo-theory of creationism and intelligent design, which adheres to the predecessor Francis Benedict.

The words of Pope Francis sounded at the meeting of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences - one of the oldest non-denominational academies of science in Europe. Head of the Roman Catholic Church has recognized the validity of scientific theories of creation - the theory of evolution and the Big Bang theory - and also said that God - not a magician.

“When we read about creation in Genesis, we risk to imagine God magician with a magic wand, which is able to do everything. But it is not so” - quoted by Francis British newspaper Independent.

The Pope stressed that the scientific theory of the origin and development of life do not contradict the teachings of the church.

“The Big Bang, which is now considered the beginning of the world, is not contrary to the divine intervention of the creator, but rather needs it, - said the Pope. - Evolution in nature does not contradict the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve.”

Experts note that the opinion of Francis goes against the submission of its predecessor - Pope Benedict XVI. Previous pontiff said he did not support the creationist view of the origin of life and the theory of “intelligent design of the universe,” and referred to himself as a supporter of “theistic evolution” - doctrine that God created man and nature through evolution.

Thus, Benedict believed that the evolutionary process is too rational and lies at the basis of the evolution of “creative reason” of God.

The first head of the Catholic Church officially recognized the theory of evolution, became Pope Pius XII, who led the church from 1939 to 1958. In the encyclical of Pope Pius XII clergy agree that the theory of evolution can explain the origin of the human body (but not his soul). However, Pius urged caution in judgment and called evolution hypothesis.

Almost half a century later, in 1996, Pope John Paul II in his message to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences has confirmed acceptance of theistic evolution as valid for the Catholic position and stated that the theory of evolution - it is more than a hypothesis.
