WikiPearl: edible food packaging

Usefulness of us familiar product packaging is quite debatable. Aside from a small facilitate our daily lives, nothing useful it brings: the long-term storage in polyethylene significantly reduced content of nutrients, and the packaging itself is ultimately in the seas and oceans.

In an effort to reduce the impact of packaging on the environment, activists offer a variety of solutions: completely eliminate food packaging in supermarkets, elaborate packaging, which can be eaten, not throwing in the trash.

A couple of months ago we were talking about “Ooho” - teardrop water container that is strong enough, hygienic, biodegradable, edible and which is easy and cheap to produce.

The idea kind of packaging for solid food - WikiPearl born in bio-engineer, a Harvard University professor David Edwards (David Edwards). David saw some time to pack foods and drinks full package like the one in which the nature of the “stores” fruits and vegetables.

After a long research with his students, Edwards has continued to develop, in collaboration with the designer Frans Azamburg (François Azambourg) and biologist Don Ingbergom (Don Ingber).

Technology has taken the top prize for innovation at SIAL 2012 and is widely accepted.
And inspired by the reaction of the public and potential partners, scientists have organized a company called WikiFoods, Inc.

Here is what they write on their “natural” packaging developers:

“Inspired by nature, technology WikiFoods can serve a wide range of packaging for food and beverage, completely eliminating the need for plastic or plastic packaging, replacing the last packaging made from natural ingredients. As peel grapes, packaging WikiFoods works not only as a barrier against water loss and contamination it is also very tasty and contains nutrients. ”

Made of “electrostatic protective gel formed by binding interactions between natural edible particles, nutrients and polysaccharides,” this package, as the creators explain hydrogen and oxygen impermeable.

“Imagine peel grapes and coconut shell. Packaging WikiPearl plays such a role for food. Peel fruits and vegetables is very tasty and a protective coating.”

WikiPearl technology protects enclosed in a “package” or beverage product, not subjecting it to an artificial chemical material, at the same time being tasty, useful and very comfortable material.
