Paleontologists have learned to find the remains of dinosaur soft tissue

The soft tissues of ancient organisms practically saved. During mineralization fossilized bones and teeth become almost eternal and there may be hundreds of millions of years, but the proteins even under the most favorable circumstances will not last more than a few million. And it is in them is hidden the main, the most valuable information about the once living being.

In search of the most precious and rare finds, paleontologists refer to the remains of perfect preservation - and sometimes their efforts are successful. At the disposal of scientists are tiny fragments of soft tissue of Tyrannosaurus rex (age 68 million years); hemoglobin removed from a long-dead insects; pigment molecules turtle Eocene epoch, dating back tens of millions of years, but it is - a very rare exception. However, such findings may soon become quite commonplace.
British researchers from Imperial College London said the new recovery soft structures used by them to work with fossils of age already 75 million years - the remains of which would seem to derive anything new will not succeed. The remains of these - eight bones Cretaceous dinosaurs belonging to different species, including the whole of herbivorous Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus and iguanodons, and up to predators such as velociraptors.
All eight bones have quite high safety, but the latest methods of micro- and nanoscale mass spectrometry allowed them to observe calcified protein (collagen) fibers, and even red blood cells, red blood cells are suspiciously similar to … emus of modern Australia.
The authors believe it is only a beginning, a preliminary test of the pen: in their view, new methods are opening up completely new possibilities in the field of restoration and study of ancient remains of soft tissue - at least, fibrillar and cellular structures. Such work will help us better understand the physiology, biochemistry, and even the behavior of long-extinct animals.
Save millions of years, they shed new light on the key moments of the evolution of life on Earth. For example, it is known that the same size of red blood cells in vertebrates are well correlated with the speed of the internal metabolic processes, and thus, can tell a lot about such a complex and poorly understood process of how the appearance of warm-bloodedness.
