In Uzbekistan, the political science declared pseudoscience, its teaching in universities canceled: does not include the national scientific heritage and highlights the “Uzbek model” of development

Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Vakhabov in a circular dated 24 August announced the decision to abolish the teaching of political science at the universities of the country.

Formal occasions - the subject topics are duplicated with other sciences, have no political science research methodology and educational literature based only on Western sources, does not contain any of the national scientific heritage and highlights the “Uzbek model” of development.

The news leaves a twofold sense.

On the one hand immediately comes to mind as Turkmenbashi I banned opera, ballet and the circus, and in Uzbekistan during 1990-2000’s in the form of an order taken out on trash rich library collections.

On the other - everyone understands that there is no political science (or almost no) in Uzbekistan and did not smell: it is all fit into a short formula, “What are you going next?”. So that the loss is small.

However, as might be expected, the holders of diplomas, as well as teachers of political science will now have to look for a new class (for example, teaching physical education).

Famous Uzbek political analyst Farhad Tolipov posted on his page on Facebook, an open letter of appeal:

Silent means consent. We do not agree with the abolition of political science in Uzbekistan.

Moment of truth for political scientists in Uzbekistan

We, the undersigned, a group of political scientists in Uzbekistan, can not remain indifferent to the blatant decision of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Vakhabov to abolish the teaching of political science at the universities of the country.

This decision was made on the basis of proposals from the so-called working group, whose members have little or no relevance to the science. In fact, a group of conservative officials, most of whom are themselves once ironically hastily defended the degree of Doctor of Political Sciences, now occupying positions in state institutions and do nothing in science, took over the right to declare a political science pseudoscience. They actually thereby declared themselves pseudo-scientists.

But we do not agree with the decision and stand in defense of our science. We chose political science as a profession, and therefore offended voluntarist decision to abolish it as a profession and as an educational subject.

Thousands of young and experienced scientists of Uzbekistan have diplomas analyst, and hundreds of them have scientific degree of candidate or doctor of political sciences. If from now on political science can not be independent of science, who are now these scientists, which the government has trained with the first years of independence and which has issued the diplomas and degrees?
