The rate of growth of giant crystals

Deep among the silver-lead mines in the Nike (Mexico) around a decade ago, it was found what is now known as Cueva de los Cristales (Cave of Crystals). Gypsum crystals in this cave reaches 11 meters in length and 1 m in thickness, they are extremely beautiful, and the question of the rate of growth held by many scientists.

Since the cultivation of giant krstallov in the laboratory is complicated by the duration of the process, until now it was impossible to accurately assume the age of the crystals. However, thanks to a team of researchers from Spain and Japan and new analytical techniques, age, and their rate of growth was determined.

It was found that they grew up about a million years!
