Scientists have lodged in the brains of rats, an electronic memory

The scheme, which replaces the hippocampus of rat, created and tested on rodents, scientists from the United States. Tests have shown that animals can get at will remember this or that action, and that the chip improves the ability of the brain.

Researchers from the University of Southern California (USC) is not the first work on creating an artificial hippocampus. The latter work helped them to colleagues at Wake Forest University (WFU).

At this time in an article published in the Journal of Neural Engineering, researchers told the E-substitution of a neural network that forms the long-term memory (long-term memory) in rats - the scheme, which reproduced the work of the brain of rodents.
In the first part of the experiment, the researchers showed that rats can be trained to press a left or right lever for an award. Scientists have implanted electrodes into the brain of animals that recorded interaction sites in the hippocampus, conventionally known as CA3 and CA1.

The animal remembers what action to bring the expected result, due to the interaction of these departments. During training, the brain transforms the short-term memories into long-term memory. However, it is way off medication hippocampus, as this relationship disappears.
