Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland is running again, gradually increasing the speed of protons

Large Hadron Collider (LHC), located near Geneva at the European Center for Nuclear Research, re-launched. As said in a statement issued today at CERN, the first beams of protons began to circulate on the 27-kilometer tunnel in each direction, at 04:10 Central European Time “(06:10 Moscow time).

Now scientists will gradually increase the speed of moving through a tunnel of protons, located on the 100-meter depth on the border of Switzerland and France. Their goal with the help of thousands of superconducting magnets, the total length of more than 22 km, cooled to minus 271 degrees to disperse the beams up to speed, almost corresponding to the speed of light, ITAR-TASS.

Scientists hope that soon they will be able to bring the energy up to 7 teraelectronvolt (TeV), or 3.5 TeV per beam. Then start the experiments, for which, in fact, created the LHC worth 10 billion Swiss francs (9 billion dollars at current exchange rate).
