The Large Hadron Collider is registered the birth of a pair of Z-boson - an event important to “capture” of the Higgs boson. Writes about this portal Physics World.
Z-bosons - are elementary particles that transmit the weak interaction (along with the electromagnetic, strong and gravity is one of the four fundamental physical interactions). Z-bosons can be produced from other elementary particles, such as the Higgs boson. According to the Standard Model - the most commonly accepted theory today, explaining the laws of physics, this boson “responsible” for the presence of a mass of other particles. Until now, scientists did not receive reliable evidence to confirm its existence.
Higgs boson may be produced by collisions of protons in the LHC accelerator ring. He should break down into a number of other particles (in particular, Z-bosons), which may be registered collider detectors. Directly Z-bosons detectors can not fix because of the extremely short lifetime of elementary particles (about 3×10-25 seconds), but they can “catch” muons, which are transformed into Z-bosons.
