Men’s Y-chromosome is rapidly evolving

Now, scientists learned that the Y-chromosome does not stagnated. On the contrary, constantly in the process of restructuring and renewal of its individual sections and the entire chromosome as a whole.

“The domain of Y-chromosome, evolving more rapidly - this is a part of it, which is responsible for the production of male gametes. The rest of the Y is undergoing quite a bit more drastic changes as compared with the whole genome,” - said Jennifer Hughes (Jennifer Hughes), the lead author publication, as quoted by the press office of the Institute of Biomedical Research Whitehead’s behalf.

Men’s Y-chromosome of the chimpanzee - is only the second Y-chromosome from ever completely decoded. The basis of this short chromosomes are hundreds of small plots of repeated sequences of DNA fragments that are indistinguishable from each other, so the modern methods of decoding DNA, in which this molecule is “cut” into small pieces and stands by parts, perform this task extremely difficult.

For the first time fully decipher the male Y-chromosome has rights in 2003, a group director of the institute, Professor David Page’s (David Page). Now this same team of scientists was able to present to the world the first complete sequence of the chimpanzee Y-chromosomes, the rest of the genome that was published back in 2005.
