Scientists from the Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Wake Forest (USA) demonstrated the results of an unusual experiment in which we used an inkjet printer with the “ink” of living cells. System “inkjet printing” can be used for applying “patches” of living tissue directly into the wounds of soldiers received in battle. As the researchers note, “the defeat with the loss of skin on the full thickness of more than 4 cm in diameter will not heal by themselves, so such” sealing “of wounds and burns can be crucial.
Studies in mice showed that both the second and the third week of wound healing with “patch” was going faster. By the end of the third week of the wounds treated with “printer” animals fully healed with the formation of scar tissue, which could not be said of them remain untreated counterparts.
The printer has two heads: one - for the “ink” from the skin cells mixed with fibrinogen (coagulant blood) and collagen type I (the main component of connective tissue scars), the second - for thrombin (other coagulant). When mixing the contents of the two cartridges formed fibrin, another protein necessary for blood clotting. Top “printed” layer of keratinocytes - cells that make up the bulk of mammalian skin epidermis.
