“Interestingly, the nanotubes have been theoretically predicted just a few months before their actual synthesis, and relevant theoretical articles appeared in print even later than the paper Idzimy. The prediction was made at the same time American J. Mintimirom and Russian scientist Leonid Chernozatonsky.
Immediately after opening Idzimy followed the explosion of interest of physicists and chemists around the world, it turned out that many research centers, for example, the laboratory of Nobel Laureate in Chemistry R. Smalley (Prize in 1996 for the discovery of fullerenes, C60), were already on the verge of obtaining the same results and therefore were able to surprise unusually rapid progress in the synthesis and measurement of the properties of new types of nanotubes. ”
