Canada has earned the world’s largest underwater marine observatory

In Canada, earned the largest and most advanced of the analogues of underwater marine observatory, which will have to spend a lot of scientific research projects in oceanography, biology, physics, medicine and chemistry. The formal presentation of a unique observatory was held last Friday, but the discovery of the scientific complex will take place today.

Observatory is located in the western Pacific in the waters of Canadian province of British Columbia. As a basis for the base were taken power of the Navy of Canada.

The project, known as Neptune Canada, cost Canadian taxpayers $ 100 million, but researchers say that scientific and practical benefits derived from exploitation of the country database, override the costs. In the near future in the underwater observatory will conduct a broadband internet connection, thanks to which scientists can in real time not only to share data about the experiments, but also broadcast them via video on the Internet.

Formal leadership Observatory has a Canadian University of Victoria. Here they say that in the next 25 years will carry out continuous monitoring of the Pacific and record any changes in it. “The value of the oceans in the planet’s life can not be overestimated. Many people do not even know that their lives are directly linked to the oceans, and without them it would be impossible. Observatory Neptune Canada is designed to explore these relationships and their features with previously unattained accuracy,” - says Dr. David Turpin, president of the University of Victoria.
